Gary W. Southerland
Chief Financial Officer; Co-Owner
In May 2007, Gary Southerland was assigned as the Chief Financial Officer of Magpie Enterprises Inc., supporting the U.S. Navy Submarine Rescue Contract. His responsibilities have expanded from logistical and financial management support for the Submarine Rescue Decompression/Recompression System to that of comprehensive global inventory control and global movement of the submarine rescue system in support of exercises, emergencies and the global sourcing of support vessels.
Gary retired from the U.S. Navy as a commander. His career began as a supply officer onboard the USS Louisville (SSN-724) where he started to develop his experience in supply support management. In 1991, his leadership and supply management skills were enhanced in his successful tour at the Naval Supply Depot, Subic Bay, Philippines – followed by a tour as a Material Officer on the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). Gary further nurtured his talents by earning a Master of Arts in Business Administration and Financial Management at the Naval Post Graduate School in 1997.
Gary’s ability to apply his refined skills was manifested in his assignment as the Business/Financial Manager for the Standoff Weapons Systems Program, in Pax River MD. There, he developed the life cycle budget and execution for five missile systems, including manufacture cost control oversight, multiple funding stream integration and congressional briefings. After, Gary completed his career as the Naval Liaison Officer to a Marine Aircraft Wing, where he provided global operational logistic support and management of all contracted maintenance.
